IT Certification, Person Vue, business ethics and money theft

 

Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me:

Have you been advised to do certification to help you getting a job? Have you ever experienced being robbed of you money and being helpless to get it back? Do not want the experience repeated? Avoid the Person Vue certification trick.

It gets even worst since the brain conditioning works so well for the majority of people.

They do not see, how the theft of they money is so unethical, they probably keep paying again and again.

IT certification is one way to prove the required level of knowledge of a particular vendor product or subject.

You made to think certification will get you a job

We just do this since this is the quick way to be ready for a job and it is additional evidence of commitment to a particular interest.

So we do not even think about questioning if it is sensible, adequate, efficient or as a matter of fact the way the certification awarded is an ethical business practice.

The way I understand business is that there are two parties, one that provide a service or product and there is the receiver of that service or product.

There is an exchange of an agreed payment for the service or goods to make the transaction complete.

With the practice of certification testing the candidate pays upfront. They take the money even if the testing can not occur due to an unforeseen event on either side. To me, that is an unethical business practice.

Rest easy we set the trap

And it does not matter how the terms and conditions established. It might be legal for the certification provider, in my case Person Vue, it is still unethical. Take the money without providing the service is morally wrong.

The system is set up in a way that there is nowhere else to go to have for example the Cisco certification exam done, so you are forced to sign up and hope for the best.

Hope that you do not encounter any obstacles to making it to the exam venue on the day.

The risk is all yours, and there is nowhere to go to complain about a meaningful resolution when the money is taken without taking the test.

I attach here my correspondence with Person Vue for others to learn and to be warned.

However, there is not a lot of use of this article if I did not try to change this unethical business practice.

First of all, I would like to see if there are others who think the same way as me. If so, please sign the unhappy Pearson Vue customer register!

 

We should start brainstorming a better way to learning and testing knowledge, preferably in a way that provides evidence of actual knowledge level and not brain-dump test results.

 

 

 

Finding a better way should benefit employees and employers alike.

 

The following is my correspondence with Pearson Vue about my missed appointment that cost me over 300 Australian dollars and received nothing in return.

This is not a matter of if, but when it will happen to you. If you are planning to do multiple certification tests of the major IT vendors through Person Vue test centers, you will likely to lose your money sooner or later.

I was upset about making the appointment marking mistake on my wall diary, marking the date of the test on the wrong month.

I was pressed for time taking considerable precious time away from my morning time allowed to get to work.

I panicked when I realized how easy it is to loose my hard earned money and what that money could by as it is for example worth almost two months of my family winter heating cost.

It was a genuine mistake as you can see on the inserted photo of my diary.

I am not asking for charity; I am asking to be provided with a service value for money.

At the end of the day, I have not committed any offense or crime to be punishable by law, and you are not a court with authority to take money this way like a parking fine or traffic offense or fraud or any kind.

In my opinion, no matter how we twist and turn the terms of conditions of use of a service, taking someone’s money without returning value is unethical.

I am appealing to your sense of business or common ethical values when asking for a credit back to my account.

I am sure you can honor my request just try and consider the circumstances, we all have to try to do things better for improvement in our life and businesses.

Also by taking candidate test money without providing a service equal in value, will only improve your financial bottom line and has no benefit for education, it is counter productive, it hinders chances rather than promote progress.

In my opinion, not providing a reminder email for the test coming up is the other example of inadequate customer service, that can lead to an assumption that your business is expressing arrogance to clients rather than provide genuine ( customer ) service.

I promise I will be extra careful myself not to waste your time, and I will avoid missing an appointment again with Pearson Vue in the future.
